Who is goran bregovic

What we saw in Sarajevo after , we now see all around the world. Today we are good neighbours — and then tomorrow we are shooting at each other because we are from different religions. Human beings are conditioned machines. If you condition them well they are good; if you condition them badly they can be really bad.

The show starts with a culture clash as the orchestra play a theme and are answered by five Gypsy brass players and a drummer who come marching through the audience. I taught myself to play. For four years he followed her advice, and studied philosophy at Sarajevo University, a move that should have led to him becoming a teacher of Marxism. Instead, he dramatically changed direction. When not on stage, Bregovic composes an oratorio «My Heart has become Tolerant» around the three monotheistic religions, or, with a wink to Bizet, proposes the first Gypsy opera «Karmen with a Happy End»….

His acute capacity to understand and assimilate vastly varied musical cultures allows him to incorporate into his music traditional Corsican, Georgian or Bulgarian chants, as well as elements of electronic music. His boundless talent attracts first class artists like the emblematic crooner from Greece Dalaras, the Polish star Kayah, the Turkish icon Sezen Aksu, the cult singer Scott Walker, the barefoot diva Cesaria Evora, or recently Gypsy Kings. Goran Bregovic.

Bregovic's constantly evolving post-rock-band music is practically uncategorizable. It would be easier to say what it isn't than what it is. He grew up on Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, but has grown way out of their confining genres. In addition to over thirty film scores, he has composed operas, theater pieces, and multimedia extravaganzas employing hundreds of musicians.

His music mixes the raw, earthy traditional folk and gypsy music of his region with European classical music, klezmer, and Muslim, Orthodox Christian, and Catholic chants. Bregovic and his musicians sing in half a dozen languages, including Roma, Spanish, and Serbian--with even one song in English. Events Filmin by Metal. Art Photography.

How different is it to compose music for a movie as opposed to just writing music? Gypsy music is influenced by a lot of music styles that range from Viennese waltzes to Jewish klezmer and influences from the music played in the old Ottoman Empire.

Are there any elements in your music that you would consider particularly Yugoslavian? Why do you think there is so much interest in Balkan Gypsy music and brass bands?

You were born in Sarajevo, from a Croatian father and a Serbian mother. Did the conflict between both communities affect you and your family in any way? Do you think music helped to pacify the conflict in some way? You give great significance to the instruments at your concerts. How will your orchestra be at Festival Jardins de Pedralbes?
